I've been considering upgrading my system that I built in 2003. I was wondering was a good motherboard would be for a cheap price. I would like to be able to connect an older IDE hard drive to it and be able to upgrade to an SATA one later. SLI isn't necessary but would be a bonus. I'm thinking of an AM2 socket as the AMD processor tend to be more budget oriented.
For the processor, I'm looking at the AMD Athlon X2 4200+, and I think the MSI K9N SLI Platinum for the motherboard as recommended somewhere on the site has a slot for the old hard drive. Does this seem like it will work? I can find the exact specs of the old hard drive but it is a 111GB that is plugged into an old MSI KTAV motherboard, so I assume it is IDE.
After five years of this computer I feel so far behind again. Thanks in advance for any help.
