Yes, I have read Adobe's supported card list, but they'll all rather expensive. I want a sound card that gets the job done, not necessarily one that gives the most awesome home theater experience ever. Anybody have suggestions?

I do my video editing using Pinnacle Studio Ultimate, and I get great results with a low range card.

It has DX10 and Open GL2.0, so it's more than up to the task of the amateur editing process. If your doing CAD or 3D, you need one of those expensive ones.

I can't vouch for the replay, for example, on a 50inch HDTV if that's what your planning to connect to the card. But the output to my Dell 2407WFP-HC (1920 x 1200) monitor looks brilliant (DVI to DVI). I also have an Intel Q6600.

I currently considering this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127328

But my main question is what I need as far as a separate sound card.

This Asus Xonar is a good card, and not really expensive either:
