First Time Build, Want Suggestions

Hello everyone. I am a new member and have been considering building my first rig. I want to play games on it with better results than i am currently getting on my Dell.

1 - is everything compatible?
2 - is everything going to fit in my case?
3 - are the components decent for the price (esp. the motherboard)?
4 - am i forgetting any basic parts that i need (i have a 19in monitor\keyboard \mouse\2 satellite speakers with a sub\dvdrw drive\cdrw drive)?

Any suggestions are definitely welcome and wanted. Keep in mind this is my first attempt to build a rig and i have not ordered any parts yet since i want to be sure everything will work.

I'd stick with intel.

The E8400 is $40 more at Newegg. Maybe able to pick it up cheaper soon. I think it is worth the difference.

Plenty of recommendations for MOBO for this processor.

If i were to get the E8400 what would be a good MOBO for that configuration? Why intel anyway?

I think you'll be disappointed with that Video Card. I know its a lot more expensive, but this card is far superior.

If that's just too much for your (undisclosed) budget, this card is also much much better, and just falls short of the above link as far as performance is concerned. This is a terrific bang for the buck.

As Bob mentioned, the jump to the 500 or 640 gb hard drive is not that much in price.

I personally wouldn't go with that Mobo and cpu, but that's just me. I would suggest a Intel P35 motherboard.

"Why Intel?"

The consensus with the experts on this site is that AMD squandered its lead in the race and has remained stagnant while Intel continues to produce better products. Most people believe that Intel will continue to be the superior CPU for the foreseeable future. Thus, you will be better able to upgrade processors in the future if you go with Intel. Others may correct me, but I think that AMD is a fine choice if you intend to smash your computer with a hammer in a few years, but if you plan on reusing your motherboard and upgrading processors in the future, Intel is the way to go.
