I'm attempting :) to build a system with the ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition Motherboard listed on the home page, I noticed Rob is using PC8500 (DDR2-1066, I think) in your computer but the Asus mother board specs at 800/667/533. I'm pretty much a newb so I need a little help before I buy RAM for the board. Am I just reading the capabilities for the mb wrong or will it accept DDR2-1066 RAM? Or, is PC8500 not DDR2-1066 RAM?

Thanks for the help

I do not have the motherboard, so it is not something I can answer from personal experience, but you are correct.

The motherboard has a listed memory standard of 800mhz. But I just quickly grabbed this info off of newegg. it is possible that you could overclock the ram setting to run to 1066 speed. It could also be possible, although I doubt it that a bios update made it so the motherboard could use higher end memory in this case 1066. Again that is both speculation and an unlikely hood.

You are also correct in thinking that 8500 does correlate to 1066mhz RAM speed.

So if we take all these facts at face value it is possible Robs computer is running RAM that is higher than it is set to allow, which would mean that the RAM is just forcibly clocked down to 800 instead of 1066.

Of course I did not look at Robs page or settings while typing this so it is possible that he just recommends a higher end ram now, and does not actually have it in his computer. Or he just got an awesome deal on the ram and said "What the hey" and bought it anyways.

If your motherboard only supports up to PC2-6400 (800 mhz) then any RAM faster than that speed, e.g. PC2-8500 (1066 mhz) will just run at 800mhz speed.

It can only handle up to 800Mhz.

I believe Rob has consistently said that PC-8500 (1066) will "just run" at 800 mhz even tho it can run as high as 1066 mhz.

My system is the Asus M2N32-SLI deluxe and I have 4 sticks of Crucial PC-8500 (strickly Rob's recommendation), Vista Ultimate with SP1. So far, I would characterize my Vista experience as flawless and extremely fast.

I think Rob's logic, Wise Monkey's comments above are correct. Shyster, where have you been!! Good to hear from you!! zburns
