Hi all. I'm a new member although I've been reading posts for a while.
I'm looking at building a general purpose PC and to keep the cost between $400 and $500 I figure I'll go with a motherboard with integrated graphics.
I've been looking at motherboards and CPU's in the $80 to $120 range.
For an AMD system the CPU candidates are 4800+ or 5000+, and for the motherboard the following look interesting:
Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H at Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128090)
ASUS M3A78-EMH HDMI at Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131273)
For an Intel system the CPU candidates are E2200 or E2220, but when I start looking at the motherboards I start scratching my head as I'm not so sure which chipsets that include integrated graphics are worth considering. Any advice in this area would be greatly appreciated.
Would I be better off considering a low end graphics card than looking at integrated graphics considering my budget?
To give you an idea of the components I've been looking at, here is one possible build I put together:
Case - Cooler Master Centurion 534 - $55
PSU - Corsair 450VX - $75
MOBO - Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H - $96 (availability may be an issue locally)
CPU - AMD 4800+ - $95
RAM - Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 CL4 - $35+ depending on available deals
HD - Western Digital Caviar 250Gb - $67
DVD - Lite On LH-20A1S - $35
O/S - Linux (Debian or Ubuntu) - $0
Total $458
My primary local sources are: Tiger Direct Canada (http://www.tigerdirect.ca) and Canada Computers (http://www.canadacomputers.com)
Thanks,
Duncan
