I have 2 gigs of RAM and decided to upgrade to 4. Installed PNY sticks in the two remaining slots. Tight fit, but they clicked into place. When the computer boots up, the computer says it recognizes that 4 gigs are installed, but also says only 2 are working. And properties shows only 2 gigs identified. Thoughts?

What OS are you using? XP or Vista? 32 or 64 bit? Does the Bios see all 4gb and windows is only recognizing 2gb?

It may depend on your OS. Certain versions of Windows are compatible with certain amounts of RAM.

For windows it is as follows:
Windows XP Home: 4GB
Windows XP Professional: 4GB
Windows XP 32-bit: 4GB
Windows XP 64-bit: 128GB
Windows Vista Home Basic: 4GB
Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit: 8GB
Windows Vista Home Premium: 4GB
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit: 16GB
Windows Vista Ultimate: 4GB
Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit: 128GB+
Windows Vista 32-bit: 4GB
Windows Vista 64-bit: 128GB+

Plus did you install the memmory right?

Did you get the right kind of memory?

Maybe the RAM is deffective.

Next time use Crucial because their memory sticks almost never are broken when you get them. Plus ROB recommends them.
