DVD drive on an old computer has a problem. When I put a disk in, computer says that the drive is not accessible. If I try to update the driver; the drive makes a small click, the computer says that the driver is the newest available, and the disk can be read just fine - as if there was never a problem. If I take the disk out and put in a new one, same problem.

Any suggestions on how to fix?

Try using a lense cleaner CD - it could be something like that.

Also, try re-connecting the DVD drive.

no effect.

It could just be broken... :)

If its been used a lot, then its probably just worn out. DVD drives aren't that expensive now anyway, so you could probably replace it for less than $20.

This would be a brand new one that I got to replace one that stopped working. Since it was not my computer, I didn't put it through a lot of tests. I sort of assume it had the same problem before.

So you bought a new DVD drive to replace one that wasn't working, and this one doesn't work either?

That just about sums it up.

As I said, I do not know if it is the same problem or a different one. And, I can get it to work, I just have to do a couple things, and the "fix" goes away when I put in a new disk (have to do it again to make it work).

Lol, thats really weird... :/

Try downloading the drivers from the manufacturers website if you can. Also, do you have another computer to try the DVD drive out on?
