My P5N-E MB turned out to be defective. I replaced it with a Gigabyte P35-DS3L and this puppy is running beautifully from the very first boot up..
that's with an e8400 and crucial ballistix ram
Now, I believe, it is finally official.

Congrats again,
Man Asus is going to pot.
Did you use an OEM OS or did you already have one lying around that you used? Just wondering if you had to call microsoft and get a new code from them or not?

Glad you got it sorted - I've always preferred the Gigabyte motherboard. :)

It's funny; before I realized the Asus MB was the problem, I thought it was my Windows XP cd... so I called Microsoft and they sent me another copy.. so now I have two retail copies of Windows XP.. I did have to call them though, because today I activated it for the 3rd time in like a week and a half... =)

Hey Guys,
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone on the web site and brag about my finally completed computer. It's been working fine, but I finally got the rest of the parts I needed. So here is my 1st build (a complete noobie who built a PC just because he found this site!!!):
Antec Sonata III Case (with 500w power supply)
GA-P35-DS3L MB
Intel E8400 Wolfdale (dual core) 3.0ghz
2x 1024 Crucial Ballistix PC-6400 DDR2 800 4-4-4-12
MSI 8800 GTS OC (G92)
Western Digital Caviar 320 Gigs 7200rpm
Lite-On dvd/cd +- 52x
Hanns G 19" widescreen
Windows XP
All in all, my build was right about $1200. That's amazing. Thanks Rob! Thanks to everyone at this site!!!
Woulda cost like $4000 for the same pc from Alienware! (WHAT A RIP!)

Nice - this is the benefit of building PCs for yourself. :)
