I am about to start my first build using Rob's list pretty much as he recommends; the OS is Vista Ultimate, 32bit. I want "back up", but I do not see that I need it from the git go!

Is it better to leave out the second hard drive to be used for the RAID 1 backup for the time being until I am up and running and fairly familiar with the my new computer.

I can always add the second hard drive and copy the original drive to it; Am I correct in this assumption?

If I have problems as I go along and have to redo things, the second drive just means extra "thought and worry" as I go about fixing and thinking thru a problem, etc.

Those of you with the experience, what would you do if it was your first build?

Thanks for the help!! zburns

Once you set up a new RAID 1 array, then all of the data will be copied accross to your new HD, so you don't need to worry about that. Just be aware that it will probably take a long time - the longer you wait, the more data will have to be copied.

I think its best that you get your computer sorted with one drive for the moment, then install the second later on.
