Hi guys! I am a first time PC builder. I've got to the point of trying to install windows XP and here are my first questions.
Windows will format HD for space, reboot and continue to install, and shuts down halfway while installing with a blue screen stating IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and suggests that I have installed something incorrectly.
Any ideas... i'm just a few last steps from having a shiny new PC!:D

sorry very new to this, this is what spec means right?:)

Yes thats right :)

I have only encountered this problem a few times before and it almost always leads to memory as the cause and sometimes the CPU, so check your temps.

Go into the BIOS and change the command per clock from Auto to 2 or 1 to 2, alternatively you can increase the voltage of your memory for 1.8 to 2.0.

Either of these should fix your problem, if it doesn't we can move on to the next cause.

thanks jaimie, just read that increasing voltage to RAM might help. get back to you soon.

I just checked BIOS
I don't see an option to increase voltage, do I want to change memory frequency? at the moment it's set to 667 Mhz.
Also, where in BIOS is command per clock?
I have BIOS version DPP3510J.86A.0293.2007.1002.1519

just changed voltage of RAM to 2.0 and same problem occured.
I am getting the screen while windows is trying to install devices. if that helps.

So I have a lot of outsider help, that unfortunately seems to be making the matter worse. I changed the memory setting to 5-5-5-18 to correspond with my RAM and now the system is giving me another BSOD. How can I just reset all the BIOS configurations to default. f9 to set defaults and exit saving is doing nothing to the memory settings.

I don't have the same motherboard, but I had BSOD problems until I updated my BOIS. I looked up your mobo, and there is an updated version.

Page 66 of your manual explains how to do it with an ISO file, but there are also a few other ways there to do it.

Page 77, beep codes, no memory. Have you tried any other memory other than what you bought for this build? Have you tried running with just one stick just in case one is bad?

Back in BIOS,
looking at memory
speed at 800mhz
memory setting 4-5-5-13
frequency: 667

each mem stick is 1024 MB (DDR2 800) SPD: 5-5-5-18

do I want the current memory setting to be 5-5-5-18? raise the frequency?

Here are my temps:
Processor thermal margin: 54.00 C
MOBO: 35.15
ICH: 74
MCH: 66.
+12v: 12.2
+5v: 5.06
+3.3v: 3.28
MCH Vcc: 1.25
CPU 1 Vccp: 1.23
CPU fan: 2566
Chassis fan: 0631
Chassis outlet fan: 1.286

As Windows XP logo loads, I get a BSOD with a Stop: 0x0000007b
says to make sure HD is properly configured and terminated, asks me to run CHKDSK/F
To answer original question: i've only tried this particular memory, but I have tried just running with one, in all four combos.

The temps are fine.

Take out the HDD, make sure its plugged in etc.

Restore everything in the BIOS to factory default if you haven't already and DO NOT play around with the latency's.

Have a look at this link, google is your friend, google any error codes you get.
