MOBO Qualified vendor lists for Ram

I'm confused about what ram will work. The Mobo will take up to 8gb in 4 slots; but, only shows a couple Vendors listed for 2048. Do I have to use those part numbers? Will any ram work as long as it fits the speed allowed on the mobo?

I'll be using Vista 64. the E8400 CPU (can't wait any longer for the new quads) The PC will be used for some formula crunching and charting. Here is what I want to get.

I cannot give you an offical or technical answer, but those sticks should work. Under normal circumstances anyways.

I will not get into it here, but Asus is not doing a good job of doing a good job.

Basically that means that if your computer will not boot up, and you tell them you have that ram, they will blame you for getting it. If you get new ram and the board still does not work they will just not help you at all.

I would wait for a second opinion before taking my advice, preferably from Jaime, WiseMonkey, or Ricky.

It says it supports DDR2 1200 so I looked at the specs at Gigabyte site

And it looks like I can use PC6400 800MHz

If you had a question in there I did not really see it.

Basically that board can support memory that has a MHz speed of up two 1200. As far as I know there is none out there that fast, at least not reasonably priced.

So as I was discussing with WiseMonkey (more like I was getting lectured) in another thread motherboards are very backwards compatible, so yes it can use 800MHz ram chips as well as 667Mhz chips or up to 1200mhz. <--- This is what I am guessing was your question, or at least somewhere along these lines.

Wasn't really a question. Just trying to figure out what I can use. So anything under what is specified. Then go for the Gigabyte MOBO over the ASUS?

I would say yes right now just because Asus is pissing me off, but I do not have any actual experience with gigabyte so I do not know if they are any better.

You are also buying a higher end motherboard than I did so maybe there are less bugs with them.
