Hope one of you guys can help me out here
JUst put xp pro on to an msi k9n and did not hit the f6 key which Rob indicates will ask for sata drivers.
Can I install them from the msi cd once xp pro is in?

Yeah, that should be fine. Although if it worked already, then you don't really need the drivers. :)
