Looking for advice on my first time building a computer. Is everything I have here compatible? Any advice appreciated. I am not much of a gamer (just NHL and Madden08) This is mainly for internet, Music, e-mail.

I already have the memory (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16820145034), case, keyboard, and mouse

On a quick glance over it looks good to me. You went for the cheap stuff which is good if it is just going to be used casually.

Just a quick note, there is much speculation about the future of amd and most signs say it points to darkness. In otherwords if amd does not do something quick they will likely go down. So just for future upgradability if that is something that is even vaguely in your mind, you might want to switch to an intel setup.

You should be able to switch out most or all of those parts for an equal exchange in both price and quality if you do decide to go that route.

thanks shyster

I may do that and go with intel then.

One quick question I am using a Dell Dimension 4600 right now. Even though I am going the budget route I should notice improvement from that right?

Thanks again

Looks good, you won't need the the Arctic Cooling fan though, the AMD comes with its own stock fan.

If i am honest, you could probably build a better computer for the same price i.e buying an Intel dual core but seeing as your only using it for Surfing, Music ect the AMD should be more than enough.

If I can get a little more bang for my buck Jamie I would defiantely be up for that. For some reason I was under the impression that Amd was good for "budget systems"
For some reason it says on the New egg page for the cpu Cooling device not included - Processor Only

Thats a retail box, you will get a fan with it.

The equivalent Intel processor is the E4400, it is however $30 more but for that $30 you are getting a serious peformance hike, but you would not notice any difference because of what you are using the computer for, so it is up to you.

You could go for the baby Intel as i like to call it, the E2160, its about $30 less than the 5000 but even it would give it a run for its money.

Let me know if you want to switch so i can hook you up with another mobo.

If I went with the AMd setup as I have it now. Would I notice a difference between that and the Dell Dimension 4600 I have now?

thanks,

Yes, it would probably run circles around that Dimension 4600. That's probably a Pentium 4 at 1.8ghz, I'm guessing.

Its a 2.8Ghz Pentium, but yeah i would say you should notice a difference the AMDs always killed the Pentiums back in the day i.e 2 years ago lol.

The 5000 is a good CPU.
