Cooling-air or liquid?

I don't know that much about liquid cooling solutions. Even though I'm picky about noise, I've always opted for quiet fans. When I've checked into liquid cooling, it always seemed too expensive and too much trouble. But times change and maybe something attractive has come out since I looked last.
