Laptop Ram upgrade

I usually do a lot of things on my mom's laptop and I was wondering what would a boost of this much memory do:

256 mb to 1.25 GB

I think you would see a definite performance boost. Enough to make you think "yeah, that's faster", but not enough to make you think "wow, that's fast!".

I'm sure the PC I'm building will be the one were I say "WOW THATS FAST" considering it will have 4 GB of ram... I will find ways of using all of that ram, trust me I use the computer too much and do too many things that it is probably bad for my health...lol
