Planning on building a new PC, I have windows xp currently installed on my harddrive which is the same one i'm using on the new build. Do I need to reinstall windows xp on my harddrive, or will windows xp will boot right up from the harddrive when i turn on my computer with the new components.

planning on upgrading motherboard to asus p5e-vm hdmi
cpu to core 2 duo e8400 3.0ghz
memory to crucial ballistix ddr2 800 2gb
integrated graphics for a couple of months
i am using the same case,dvdrw,flash card reader
upgraded psu to 500w a couple of weeks ago
upgraded cpu heatsink to a freezer 7 pro a month
ago

You will need to run a repair on XP - its basically the same as re-installing it, but you get to keep all your files.

To run a repair:

1. Boot from the XP CD
2. Select the option that says "Install a new copy of Windows", or something like that
3. Your current OS will be found, and there will be an option to press R to repair - do that

Voila. :)
