well.... i am just wondering how much of a gain the 8800gts would be over the 8800gt. i got a promo code in email for the 8800gts for 284.99. and was considering going with it. is it worth it or should i just go with the 8800gt?

I've had nothing but problems with my 8800GT. Its loud, its hot, and you have to control the fan with Rivatuner.

That 8800GTS 512 is very close to the GTX in performance. I wish I had one.

Can I ask which 8800gt you have ricky? Is it the new 512 one or the older ones?

I got mine through the Step-up program with EVGA. The new ones were out, but they sent me one of the old ones. Now its gone tits-up, and I'm trying to RMA it, but its still pending.

bummer.... well i did order the 8800gts (g92) a lot of reviews have said u have to set the fan through ntune i think from the stock 29% to 80% to run cool. hope it works out good.

That's exactly right. The fan runs at 29% all the time, so during intense game play, your video card could get a little hot.

Do not run Ntune. Rivatuner is much better, and interacts better with the 8800 series cards.

At first, I set my card to run at 60%, but it sounded like a jet plane taking off. I set it to run at 40%, which was tolerable, but I also set it to run at 70% if the temp reached 55c, and 100% if the temp reaches 60c. While gaming, the fan will go back and forth from 40% to 70%, depending on the temperature. I game with a headset on, so the fan noise doesn't bother me too much, but if my wife is trying to sleep, it bothers her some.

You shouldn't have that problem with the 8800GTS. It seems to be a much better card. Wish I had one.

The 8800GTS is not really much better, just has a better fan and slightly higher clocks.

I have an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 with the Turbo modules and my 8800GT runs at 34DegC.

i downloaded rivatuner v2.06 and it says it has not been tested with my gpu driver and when i try to go into the customize part to set fan speeds it wont let me select anything with the gpu.
