Now that i know I can get the 8400 for less than the q6600, I'm planning to order one this week for my first build. Is there any reason not to? Will it work with the ASUS P5KC motherboard? (I can't update the BIOS without a working processor, after all.)

Should work fine.

Thanks, Jamie. Would you say that's the processor to buy for gaming right now? I mean, in the sub-$300 range, at least.

Also, as a follow-up to my BIOS inquiry...

I'm reading a lot in other forums about people having to flash the BIOS on their motherboards before installing the 8400. How can I do this without a processor? Being my first build, the only functional pc I have right now is a laptop. I own no other processor that I could place in the P5KC for a BIOS update. So either the mobo has to be ready for the 8400 out of the box, or I have to be able to update the BIOS using only the 8400 itself. Does this make sense? Will it cause me problems? Do I have to wait for ASUS to upgrade the mobo before buying one?
