I was hoping the new quadcores would come out this month, but...

I'm planning to order a cpu in the next week or so. I was going to get the Q6600 (currently $280 at NewEgg), but I see that the Core2Duo e8400 is being sold for just over $200. It's a 3 gHz processor, vs. the q6600's 2.4 gHz. Obviously, the advantage of the q6600 is it's got 4 cores. However, the e8400 is much cheaper and its 2 cores are .6 gHz faster. Also, if I'm not mistaken the e8400 is one of the new 45n processors, which supposedly run much cooler. I am going to use this machine primarily for gaming, but I also will use it for video editing. I am planning to overclock the processor. Also, I don't anticipate upgrading the processor for at least 2 years once I build the machine, so that is a factor in deciding which is the better choice for my needs. Thanks.

By the way, I'm planning to get the ASUS p5kc motherboard...would the e8400 run (and overclock) on that board?

I can tell you right now that CPU is AWESOME, in fact i doubt the Q6600 could keep up with it even with 4 cores running.

There will be no need to overclock it because it will already be very fast, but the Asus P5K-C is an excellent overclocker so you have no worries there.
