Should I install Windows on a separate hard drive?

I was recently discussing my planned build with my cousin-in-law, who recently built his own machine. He suggested that I should buy the smallest hard disk available to install the OS on, and then install all games on a larger hard disk so that all the processes Windows runs in the background won't slow down game performance. But I was wondering if the cpu and RAM having to access both disks at once wouldn't actually slow down games rather than speed them up. If I do this, will I see any noticeable difference? Are there any things I'd need to be thinking about in my choice of disks (other than brand, rpm, and gb storage space)? Any advice like "Be sure to/not to..."

This does indeed work, but it doubles the chances of problems occuring. :)

If you are going for the best performance, I'd recommend buying a 10,000RPM drive, such as the WD Raptor. I have a 74GB Raptor and a 250GB storage drive, and the difference in startup time is really noticeable.
