ok ive been reading this forum for a few weeks and its really tempting me to try and build but i think i would f**k it up maybe soon but all these builds/prices are dollars anyone know how much roughly it would cost to build a comp thats great for general use including GIS software photoshoping and multitab internet browsing i really like comps to start nice and quick aswell

Everything is much more expensive here in the UK, unfortunately, so you're looking at about £800 to build a very good computer at the moment.

well i dunno im just looking at a rough estimate as i dont know how soon i would decide to build i have monitor but would prob look at all new stuff inside what sort of comp could i get for 5/6 hundred

For £500 i could easily price you a kickass gaming rig, i know you said you wanted the comp for everyday things, but its never too late to start PC gaming :)

ive been reading alot on here mentioning 64 bit os and 32 bit os but apart from suporting 4gb ram what is the diff

Thats basically its high point, it allows more memory, so memory intensive programs will will run faster.

Oki doke mate here are the specs, all prices are from Ebuyer except the memory which is from Overclockers.

Asus P5KC, £73.21.
E6750, £118.91.
MSI 8800GT, £169.99.
Geil 2GB memory , £37.59. (after Corsair this is my favorite memory)
Corsair HX520w PSU, £63.31.
Maxtor 250GB SATA HD, £36.89.
LG DVD/RW Rom SATA, £17.34.
Microsoft Vista Home Premium, £61.41. (OEM system builders version)

All of this, this mega gaming rig (it is) including the OS as well comes to £578.65, now you need a case, there are a few nice ones i can recommend that are cheap and cheerful so to speak, but if you want an Antec 900 or similar your looking at about £70 upwards just for the case.

Hope this helps, honestly a computer like this in PC world would cost upwards of £1600 and that is no joke, i saw a Packard Bell with an E2160 and an 8600GT for £1000 :eek:

whats required as far as adding usb ports and also will there be space for a network card also when building is it mostly a case of just screwing/cliping things together or is it realy techinical
is the memory 184 pin cos i have recently upgraded my existing comp with 2x
Crucial 1GB DDR PC3200, CL=3, UNBUFFERED, NON-ECC, DDR400, 2.6V, 128Me
edit: just realised that the new stuff will be loads faster than this oops
finally thats seems alot of money for graphich card(compared to everything else) are there any steps down to save a few bob

On the Graphics card it depends, if you game a lot i would say you should get one, if not we could probably shave £70 off and get a 7900GT or an ATI 3850 or something.

When you build, you put the motherboard in, screw it into the case, plug everything in, slot the optical drive and HD in, screw them in, plug them in, its easy.

There will be enough USB ports for you and there will be plenty of space for a Network card.

where do the usb slots come from then are they on the case ?

when looking at cases do i need a psu? alot of cheap ones say no psu but ive read somewhere there always sh*t any way

There should be a few USB slots on the case, but there will be 4 or more on the motherboard.

You should buy a separate PSU if you want the added stability - I recommend Antec, as they are a good quality brand at low prices. You should be looking at around 450W to power this kind of setup.
