Problems booting up

Hello

This is my first time building a computer.
Ok. So I plug in power for the mobo and the ram, cpu, and cpu fan. A green light comes on. When I push the power button, the fan is on for less than 2 seconds and then it goes off. I'm using a Pentium 4 3.06 processor and intel mobo dg965ry. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

This can be caused by the fan for the CPU cooler either not being connected, or being connected to the wrong socket. What's happening in this case is that the computer cannot detect a fan cooling the CPU, so it shuts down in two seconds to avoid over heating and damaging the CPU.
